This opinion piece is very interesting. Lots of big words, those are always an excellent way to validate what you are saying. There was a nice story about how we have grown apart and how the author had an encounter that reminded him of our need to re-connect with others. Then we get to the heart of the matter.

The tea party is used as an example and then dismissed for not being concerned enough. Well at least enough concern about the authors ideals. On that subject lets dwell for a moment. The author presents the concept that government is the best option for management of health care. His logic is because they are accountable to the people and corporations are accountable to the shareholders. Lets think about that for a moment.

The government is accountable to the people for its actions. Really? It is accountable? Really? I don't know about that statement and how true it is. I mean it sounds good to say and it is a really good concept but is it true.

Corporations are only accountable to the shareholders. Ok again Really? The shareholders only? So what is the number one concern for the shareholders? Here is a hint its money. How does the company make money? It charges a fee for a service it provides.

So we have two entities with which we can decide who is more accountable. First the Government and second the corporation.

Then if the first concept was not enough the author adds something else to the mix. He compares Government run medi-care to that of private insurance. He uses a figure that has no reference so I will presume it is true. What he neglects to say is that the government dictates what the pay outs for medi-care will be and the private sector has to make up the difference. Oh I'm sorry that was supposed to be a secret. It is great to look at the system and say see it works. But when we take off the facade we see the real truth. Government run health care will not work absent the private industry. There will eventually be no one to make up the difference.

All the nice dream thoughts and comparisons to mythology are great but it has to do with more than just Americans linking arms together. Health Care in this country does need to be reformed, it really does. The concept of that reform being a government run program is not the way to do it. Can the government be a roll in oversight? I think so. Can the Gov. do something with lawsuits and the legal system? Absolutely. Can the Gov. do something with the FDA and its approval process? yes this would allow for different treatments to come out sooner. Our Government should be looking for ways to extract itself from ares that could be handled by the private sector and not looking for more ways it can take on new responsibilities.

The author promotes the idea that having the government run it is the best way and what is the big deal. Well the big deal is one word, freedom. We have it now and I would like to keep it. When we trade in our private run lives for that of government run we exchange our freedom. Are you willing to do this so you can reconnect with your fellow man and not be like Narcissus, or are you willing to go about it a different way and maintain your freedom while still looking out for others.
